For Florence Barnes, freedom meant flight. After disguising herself as a sailor to flee an unhappy marriage, Florence spent four months in Mexico with a boat full of revolutionaries. She came home with a new name (Pancho), a new outlook and earned a pilot’s license signed by Orville Wright. In 1930, she broke Earhart's speed record at 196 mph, earning the title "Fastest Woman on Earth." She became Hollywood's first female stunt pilot, flying for Howard Hughes' Hell's Angels. When Hughes refused to pay stunt pilots fairly, she organized them into one of Hollywood's first unions and walked away with a 500% raise.
