In shocking news out of #Alabama, the state’s felony ban on #trans healthcare has gone into effect. #Republican Governor #KayIvey signed the bill on Sunday (April 8 ), however, it was being reviewed by Federal courts due a number of lawsuits. The new law lists hormonal treatment and other gender-affirming care given to youth under 19 as a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. As the 'Alabama Reporter' notes, “More than twenty medical and mental health professionals testified… arguing that the new law forces doctors to choose between violating their Hippocratic oath or risk being prosecuted for providing medically essential care to transgender youth.” As glaad reiterated on social media, and chasestrangio reminded audiences during Logo’s #TransYouthTownHall, every major medical association in the United States supports life-saving gender-affirming healthcare for trans youth.
