Criminologist Jillian Peterson says there are ways to prevent school shootings. “We know that young people who do this are in crisis, that they are telling people that they're going do this, that they are creating all sorts of warning signs. There are 1,000,000 things we could do to intervene on this pathway to violence,” says Peterson. Peterson recommends school-based mental health support, inclusivity programs, peer-support groups, and adults checking in on students. “At the end of the day, there is no one big solution to this.
