Photonic chips advance real-time learning in spiking neural systems.
The new photonic chips enable fast learning and decision making using only light-based processes, no electronics-based computation required.
Instead, researchers used a 6-channel photonic neuromorphic chip with 272 trainable parameters, giving their system the ability to process multiple streams of optical signals at once and adjust many connections through learning.
The chips could improve autonomous driving technologies and enable robotic systems that learn through real-world interactions.
