Work will start this summer on an expansion of the ongoing project that is transforming Ingersoll Avenue from a thoroughfare built for cars into a pedestrian-focused boulevard with dedicated bike lanes, city and neighborhood officials say. The desmoinesgov Council approved a plan to reconfigure a portion of Ingersoll Avenue extending east from Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway to 15th Street. Though not as elaborate as the nine-year plan to repave, reconfigure and landscape along theavenuesdsm (Ingersoll west of MLK), the eastern project will reduce the street to three lanes from five, create parking lanes and a buffered bike lane, said City Engineer Steve Naber.
