In the 1960s, American entered a decade that continued to shape the future of the aviation industry. Captain David E. Harris became the first Black U.S. commercial airline pilot with American, and the legendary C.R. Smith retired after 30 years at the helm, closing an important chapter of the airline’s history.
Evolution didn’t stop there. We captured the spirit of advancement by adding the Boeing 727, also known as the AstroJet, to our fleet. This positioned American as a leader in the jet age and continued our legacy of firsts.
