Jeffrey Epstein paid Berkeley Law a $1,000 deposit in 2016 according to a March 22 American Express credit card statement.
The timing of the payment corresponds with several emails exchanged between Epstein and the law student. The pair communicated frequently from 2015 to 2019, during which the student completed a Master of Laws from Berkeley Law’s program and graduated in 2017.
According to the emails, the student was already training to be a French barrister, and was looking to work in the United States. The Master of Laws is intended to prepare international students for the fundamentals of U.S. law practice, making them eligible for a U.S. Bar Exam.
