BREAKING NEWS: John Miro, a Nassau County crossing guard struck by a pickup truck last week near the Merrick Long Island Rail Road station, has died. CSEA Nassau Local 830, a public service union, announced his death in a Facebook post. “John was struck while performing his duties protecting children in Merrick on February 26, 2026. John has passed away today from his injuries,” it said. “Crossing guards serve our communities with courage and dedication, standing in the roadway each day to keep our children safe.
