A two-year study by Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum recently revealed that a work long thought to be painted by one of Rembrandt’s pupils was actually made by the Dutch Master himself. Now, “The Vision of Zacharias in the Temple” (1633) is going on view for the first time in more than 60 years. The painting is the latest in a series of works by Rembrandt van Rijn that have been rediscovered after years in private collections. In 2023, a pair of his small oval portraits were displayed at the Rijksmuseum for the first time in nearly 200 years. This spring, an exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum in Zutphen will display dozens of newly rediscovered copper-plate etchings that have recently been ascribed to Rembrandt.
