Girlguiding has launched a new taskforce to explore how it can support trans girls and women just months after banning trans girls from joining its groups. In December 2025, the organisation confirmed that trans girls would no longer be eligible to join its youth groups, including Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers. The decision followed the For Women Scotland Ltd v The Scottish Ministers, which defined sex in law as biological sex assigned at birth. Now, Girlguiding says it is exploring ways to support the trans community through a new taskforce involving around 500 volunteers. In an update, the organisation said it had been making “steady progress” while looking at ways trans girls and trans women could still connect with and be supported by Girlguiding in the future. The initiative includes 16 core panel members, including people with lived experience, volunteers, young members, staff, parents and experts.
