If your pop time isn’t moving, it might not be a mechanics problem.
When Alex Clotworthy came to VeloU as a freshman, he weighed 142 pounds. The receiving skills were there. The work ethic was obvious. But from a physical standpoint, he did not yet have the horsepower to separate behind the plate.
Force plate testing showed his power output was average for his class. Solid, but not enough to create faster throw downs under a time constraint.
So instead of chasing quick arm speed fixes, we made a clear decision:
Increase bodyweight. Increase power output. Increase consistency in the weight room.
As a catcher, every throw is strength applied fast. If force production is limited, pop time usually is too.
Over the last year:
+30 pounds of bodyweight
+1,000+ watts in peak power
69 mph → 75 mph from behind the plate
2.15 pop time → consistently 2.0
There was a stretch where progress flattened out. That mattered. Freshman year was ending and the timeline tightened. Once consistency match...
