White Cube wishes a Happy Birthday to Anselm Kiefer šŸŽ‰ā  ⁠ Looking back on the trilogy of exhibitions at White Cube Bermondsey, London, Anselm’s most recent, ā€˜Finnegans Wake’ (2023), responding to James Joyce’s 1939 novel, is arguably the most ambitious of the three.⁠ ⁠ As Brian Dillon (briangdillon) put it, the exhibition ā€˜is a passage in which his work rushes past us into the future – where we can say, with Joyce, ā€˜Here comes everybody’.’⁠ ⁠ In ā€˜Superstrings, Runes, The Norns, Gordian Knot’ (2019), Anselm’s sculpture and paintings brought together Greek mythology, ancient forms of writing and the speculations of string theory. ⁠ ⁠ Back in 2016, ā€˜Walhalla’ comprised large scale installation, sculpture and painting, the title of the exhibition referring to both the mythical place in Norse mythology and the neo-classical monument built by Ludwig I, King of Bavaria, in 1842.⁠ ⁠ šŸ”— Click the link in our bio to learn more about the artist.⁠ ⁠ #AnselmKiefer⁠ ⁠ Images: Anselm Kiefer, 'Superst...
