Construction on the current church began in 1888, and it was dedicated on June 29, 1890, the feast day of Sts. Peter and Paul. At the time, the Chattanooga Daily Times reported an estimated 2,500 Chattanooga Catholics attended Mass at some point during the day. Basilica of Sts.
