For years I heard things like:
âWe didnât have to worry about you.â
âYou always had it handled.â
âYouâre so strong.â
âYouâre doing amazing.â
âYouâre like a machineâ
On the outside, they sounded like compliments. And I know they were very well-meaning.
I was the responsible one.
The independent one.
The one who figured things out.
But what no one saw was what was happening inside my body.
Anxiety.
Hyper-vigilance.
Constant pressure to hold everything together.
Burnout loops.
When youâre the âstrong one,â you learn how to function in survival mode really, really well.
Masking becomes second nature.Pushing through is always the plan. You do it so well that people think youâre thriving.
Lately, Iâve been learning something I wish I knew years ago:
