Weekends in Kyoto look like this ⛩️🌿
Outside of class, students’ weekends can include optional Friday excursions exploring places like Heian Shrine. Walking beneath towering torii gates and wandering through peaceful gardens feels pretty different from a typical college weekend.
Built in 1895 to commemorate the 1100th anniversary of Kyoto becoming Japan’s capital, the shrine reflects the elegance of the Heian period through its architecture and expansive grounds.
We’re constantly reminded how lucky we are that sights like this are within walking distance. Living and learning in Kyoto means history and tradition aren’t separate from daily life. They’re woven right into it.
Moments like this make studying abroad here feel pretty special.
