Last Friday, our Open Campus Block I students learned how to prepare matcha the traditional way on our tea ceremony excursion 🍵✨ From measuring and whisking to sipping and turning the bowl, every step is part of the ritual behind one of Kyoto’s most iconic drinks. Matcha, the Kyoto way: Step 1. Lay out your essentials: bowl, whisk, scoop, sugar treats. Identify the face of the bowl and have it facing you. Step 2. Grab your matcha powder. Step 3. Add one big scoop and one half-sized scoop to the bowl. Step 4. Pour in hot water. Step 5. Whisk in a zigzag until foam forms. Step 6. Look for a smooth, creamy top. Step 7. Before drinking the bitter matcha, coat your mouth with the sweet sugary treat Step 8. One hand on the side, one supporting the bottom. Face of the bowl toward you, sip slowly, then using your hand on the side rotate the bowl twice by 90° so the face of the bowl ends facing away from you. #cieekyoto #cieeabroad #ciee #studyabroad #kyoto
