"To me, civic learning at the University of Michigan means learning how to engage across differences to strengthen our communities and democratic institutions. Growing up in a more conservative community and then studying in Ann Arbor pushed me to pursue bipartisan, evidence-based dialogue rooted in respect and curiosity. Through my work with the ObamaFoundation and the GeraldFordFoundation, I have seen how civility, thoughtful questioning, and active listening are essential to meaningful civic engagement. Inspired by these values, I founded the Ford Leadership Forum at the University of Michigan (FLF.UM) to foster bipartisan collaboration on campus centered on the public good.
