These majestic old-growth forests of the Pacific Northwest are precious. They’re home to unique endangered species like northern spotted owls, marbled murrelets and coho salmon. They absorb and store vast amounts of carbon dioxide and filter our air and water. Besides their priceless roles supporting the climate, healthy streams, and wildlife, mature and old-growth forests are the most resilient to wildfire — which is increasing in a warming world.
