I don’t know what Black girl needs to hear this, but for the one that does, this is for you. I’m here for you. I am you. We are in this together. I am a Black girl growing up in America, where European standards of beauty are forced down our throats at every turn. Their beauty standards are not superior to ours. But when these are the norms, I think it might be challenging to some to stay true to our roots. Sometimes it’s easier to assimilate in hopes of being accepted. But that’s where self love steps in...this is where the love of one’s self needs to be restored. BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL! It always has been! The “forces that be” will try to teach us otherwise, but that’s just not the case.
