Transformative....that is the one word that I would use to describe my past 2 wk yoga, literature and art camp at spelman_college with chelsealovesyoga.
I knew I was going to be exposed to a sisterhood of young, like minded, and beautiful spirited black girls and without a doubt, I did. Though exposed to many opportunities in my life, I have seldom experienced a togetherness and unity between a group of girls like this...where no matter where I looked, I saw a representation of me and mine. I found comfort in the diversity of complexions and shapes each instructor brought to our space. I found parts of myself, my mother, my sisters, and my aunts within them. I saw representation. I saw myself, and it was such a special thing. In this experience, I learned to hold a deep love for the yoga art form, immerse myself in the works and pieces of literature produced by black women, and the stories artwork can tell, especially when the story it shares is one of a black woman.
