This isn’t Marilyn. Or is it? 🎭 ✨ For decades, Cindy Sherman has played with the construction of identity. She left her mark through photographic portraits which used distinct props and prosthetics to transform her identity. From female caricatures to celebrity icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Sherman has embodied various personas and narratives in her work. “(Re)Constructing History” invites audiences to imagine the layers of history we encounter through a fixed image. As part of this exhibition, Sherman invites discourse around the themes of identity, gender, and stereotypes in her work. 📍 Visit “(Re)Constructing History” on Floor 3 - [Cindy Sherman, “Untitled (Marilyn),” 1982; Gift of Jeffrey Fraenkel; © Cindy Sherman; photo: Courtesy the artist and Hauser & Wirth] #CindySherman #Photography #SFMOMA
