Stock Show Through the Decades: 1916–1926 🐂 🐎
Stock Show 2026 didn’t exactly bring the classic “Stock Show weather” we’re used to. But with March finally delivering some snow, it feels like the perfect time for our next Stock Show Through the Decades. ❄️🐂
Believe it or not, snowy Stock Show weather has been part of the show for more than a century. As early as 1910 Denver was already battling massive January snowstorms. One memorable example came in 1916, when a Colorado blizzard delayed the D&RG stock train (pictured), stopping it from arriving in time for the show with a 5-day delay. 🌨️
This decade was also defined by the start of World War I, when the Stock Show converted to a fundraiser for the Red Cross. With over 1,000 heifers contributed to the war effort, the 1919 show, named the "Victory Stock Show" set a new record for attendance.
