I was so excited to come back to this world. So much happened in the first book, and we left off with Charlie absolutely hating Elias after his actions at homecoming. Elias being a mare and not feeling emotions for years reminded me a lot of seasons two and three of The Vampire Diaries, when Damon starts realizing that his feelings for Elena make him want to be better in order to be worthy of her.
