One of the most misunderstood structures in facial work is the SMAS the superficial musculoaponeurotic system. This layer connects the facial muscles with the skin and helps transmit the movement of the muscles to the surface of the face. In simple words, it is part of the lifting support system of the face. Because of this, many people think the SMAS should be stretched strongly during facial massage. But in reality, SMAS is not meant to be aggressively stretched. It is a fibrous connective structure.
