Extensive damage was reported across northeast Illinois and parts of northwest Indiana after fierce storms roared through Tuesday evening, destroying buildings and forcing residents from their homes. Multiple tornado touchdowns were reported across the region, including near the village of Aroma Park, just miles from the Kankakee city limits. While tornadoes can occur in the area, those of this intensity are relatively rare for the Chicago region.
