The young people in New Orleans are speaking loud and clear. Their main message? LISTEN to them. Our children want you to listen to them, to understand them, to take their real needs into account.
You: adults, parents, city leaders, teachers, neighbors...the whole village.
Our strategic storyteller, Cierra, has been working with a group of young Black teenagers ages 16 and 17, who are detained pre-trial in Orleans Parish’s juvenile jail. They call themselves “The Seven That Make It Happen.” They wrote an essay to all adults and leaders of New Orleans, explaining the major issues they believe need to be addressed to help them grow and develop in a healthier, more successful way.
Our children want to become the best versions of themselves, but they need our help. If you want to stop assuming and hear what they think in their own words, read the full essay at the link in our bio.
And send it to someone who's part of your village!
