There was a revolution of weedless rigging a soft plastic swimbait decades ago. I may have an unpopular opinion from my observations over the years.
Weedless rigged swimbaits have made anglers lazy and less in tune with their presentations. Its great to be able to cast into cover and get your lure back each time, but at what cost? As many weedless rigged baits ultimately have a lower hookup percentage. I had countless bites not stick due to various weedless rigs.
For years, I spent hours of my life cutting off brush guards, weed guards, etc in order to expose the hook so I could capitalize on the bites I was getting. It forced me to PAY ATTENTION to what I was doing at all times with my casting placement, lure retrieval, depth of my lure, etc. as I no longer had that wider margin of error to not snag my lure.
