In the past week, our team engaged in a series of waterproofing projects for various homes. One contractor, surprisingly, issued a certificate of compliance with AS 3740 and the manufacturer’s TDS. Quite a bold move! If you take a look at the attached video, you’ll notice glaring errors. The wrong primer was used, substrate preparation was completely overlooked, and the area wasn’t even tidied up before membrane application. Quite perplexing indeed! Further, the waterproofing was applied over the topcoat compound without the correct primer. Given the fibrous nature of the topcoat, this leads to inadequate adhesion, as clearly demonstrated in the video. Inspecting the gradient in the shower area pre-tiling is an aspect I always look forward to. However, it’s disheartening to continually encounter the same blunder - the minimum gradient requirement, as per AS 3740 clause 2.3.2 and NCC 2022 clause 10.2.12 1:80, is not met.
