Attitude makes all the difference. All the difference. In a symposium, you have a heady mixture of seeing friends from all over the world, the intimate act of opening your sketchbooks to them while you are trying to learn something new in 3 hours in a loop with weather pulling some tricks intermittently. Then you have to walk 10K steps with 2-3 workshops worth materials on your back. Despite this, when a workshop succeeds it’s on the backs of students who bring grit, grace and girth of skills. I always get this lot of students. Over years, through the small lit screens of our mobiles, which we hate for overtaking our calm minds, these cellphones have enabled a connection across countries through sketchbooks, drinks and language.
