In this video, I — Karina Puente —speak about how this workshop started. It all begins with a love of color, community, and culture. It starts with believing in the work we want to carry out and uplifting others along the way. I believe in the vision Alicia Pérez Ververa brings to Happy Valley Library in initiating and curating a Latine Heritage Month for her community. It’s important for me to partner with public libraries because I view the Papel Picado inspired textile designs –that I make and share– as pages of a dream story that comes true for our lives.
