We have a problem! Day 1 of the barn conversion Morning everyone! So this quantity surveyor budget was a real shock, because we got it (after 2 months delay) at 8pm on Friday night and works were booked to start 8am Monday morning! The problem is, because it’s taken 2.5yrs to get to the start point, due to so many bat, flood surveys etc being needed, plus delays in planning, it means the cost of timber and building in general has gone up massively since we originally planned to do this. So we had emergency meetings with our architects and builder over the weekend to make some big decisions. Firstly, our brilliant builder Tom and I went through every line of the budget and reduced it, because he is a local builder with virtually no overheads and a very experienced tight team who work hard and fast.
