Removing the roof for the bats! Morning everyone! First of all, thank you so much for all your amazing money saving advice on my last post - I’m gradually replying to all of you :) Thank you! So, back to the roof …. Our bat license conditions stipulated that we had to remove the roof no earlier than the 1st October and no later than the 31st October, so that’s been the first - very fun - project! Our building team, led by the fab tombuilderx are being brilliant and removed it in super fast time - helped momentarily by me! And they’re teaching me various skills along the way. By removing the roof, we destroy the maternity roost of brown long eared bats and make it uninhabitable for them. Sounds brutal, I know! But the reason for doing it in October is because all the bats should have left by then, because our roof isn’t a suitable hibernation site (although you’ll have seen from my Stories that there were still a family of 5 sleeping in the rafters!).
