I’ve done a new painting! A Lilac Breasted Roller that I saw in Tanzania, sitting in a Jacaranda Tree. Gouache on coloured card. Swipe for two colour options. I haven’t picked up a brush for a year, because there was so much going on leading up to my dad dying, and then after his death in November that I just couldn’t get into that creative space. I always find it hard to start again, to get my eye in, find my style, remember the feel of the paint and the brushes. So I’m not totally sure how I feel about this one. But at least it’s got me painting again and the most important point is that she’s definitely an expression of joy and delight, which makes me happy and hopefully other people too! It’s a slightly different style from my previous paintings and I’m wondering if I should have painted it on a different background colour.
