The Samoyedo brotherhood🐕 The Nenets as nomadic reindeer herders for their essential support, over the millennia have selected a special breed of dogs, robust, suitable for pulling sleds, distinctly predisposed to the cold, excellent as an animal shepherd and which we know today as the Samoyedo breed. The name Nenets instead derives from the word nuenecyaq, which simply means ‘human’ and it is thought that this name was given to it by ancient Vikings or Lapps who first encountered them in the Siberian tundra and taiga. The faces of the Nenets recall the Nordic populations and the Asian populations. For a time the Nenets and their dogs were called and identified indiscriminately with the term Samoyedo, but today each has its own distinctive name. The Samoyedos are only able to herd reindeer before migrating by following their instincts. They are protective dogs but also very gentle with strangers.
