I spent late last night taking in the sights and sounds of the beach; the chaotic yet calming undulations of waves coming in and going out is the ultimate natural white noise-so soothing. This scene and these sounds always bring to mind for me Matthew Arnold’s “Dover Beach” poem, a sort of stoic melancholy reverie.
