October was special… first the Northern Lights over Gilpin Lake Colorado (a location that never sees them), and then chasing the Comet Atlas in Colorado and Utah. When you’re given a once in a lifetime opportunity, rally whenever you can and put in the effort, you just might get to witness something that no one else will see. My friend Thomas and I rallied on Thursday night, packing our gear in 10 minutes and driving an hour north. Upon arriving to the trailhead, we were the only car in the parking lot… and we could see the northern lights already. Hoping they would last, we rallied in the dark, hiking in 5 miles at 10pm to Gilpin Lake in the Mount Zirkel Wildernes...
