A surging tide rushes into the rocky shoreline of Rialto Beach at sunset on the Olympic Peninsula Washington. Shooting seascapes is such an incredible experience. It’s a completely different force that you need to give credit. It’s strange when you’re used to reading avalanche forecasts, and then you’re depending upon tidal forecasts. On this particular evening I searched for some unique compositions that allowed the water to charge in through channels, capturing it with a slower shutter speed. It’s always a huge challenge to make sure the tripod is completely still. The sand is always settling, and the current is always attempting to pull you and the camera back out to sea. Here, I used the rock on the left to block the impact, but soon enough the tide rose enough to where I was knee deep between waves.
