Illuminating the summit of Big Agnes at 12,067ft underneath the night sky within the Mount Zirkel Wilderness of Colorado. This is a very unique perspective of the peak, showcasing its prominence. Typically you summit from the other side, where it’s a steep and gradual climb, a ramp to describe it best.
Few individuals access this vantage point each year, and that’s exactly why I wanted to capture this perspective. Over the course of 2 days I enjoyed 5 separate occasions shooting the summit of Big Agnes and the Sawtooth Ridgeline.
For those of you unfamiliar, this is the same peak that the trusted outdoor gear brand bigagnes_ is named after…and for good reason. It’s the ceiling of Northwest Colorado, and a very unique mountain range. I captured this shot via a 25-second exposure, light painting the summit with a powerful headlamp distanced 100ft from the camera so the light striking the face is closer to a 45 degree angle, reducing direct harsh light if I was light-painting from beh...
