Drift Into Darkness - Ohio Pass, Gunnison National Forest Colorado. I love this image, it’s one of my favorite autumn images hands down. I heard a great quote once, “Landscape imagery is not about what’s in the frame, it’s about what you leave out.” Over the years I’ve noticed my level of attention to detail increase…being able to hone in on the perfect composition. I love the depth in this image, how your eyes are immediately drawn to the clean and aesthetic aspens, but soon move to the juxtaposition of the towering granite walls in the background graced with groves of distant aspens and pine. Your eye moves around the image, bottom to top, left to right, that’s what you want. Hiking only two miles in, luckily these aspens weren’t too far off trail, and when I noticed this canopy opening of clean aesthetic trunks, I knew there was a way to frame it. It almost appears as if the aspens are glowing doesn’t it…well that’s because these trunks are facing west, therefore absorbing the ...
