One of my favorite landscape images, this image was captured in near darkness utilizing a 30-second exposure to capture the last subtle light of twilight gently illuminating the west facing ridge lines. From my vantage point I could barely see these ridge lines nearly a mile away. Twilight…aka “the blue hour”, is known for its blue hue in the sky and that it casts on its subjects. Working with soft light like this can produce unique tones, textures, and moods, one especially showcased well by the simple color palette of Southern Utah. I’m really proud of this composition because it’s a location I found…that I put in the work to scout. I was so stoked when I found this composition. The foreground hillside has a different colored soil…tinted auburn with perfectly spaced bushes, such as wonderful aesthetic. A testament to how dramatic light can change and image…I returned a week later to this same location with a goal of capturing immediate sunrise light illuminating the foreground hill...
