Anger is often the first response to pain. When something triggers you, it does not start with anger. It starts with pain. Anger shows up to protect you from feeling that pain. It is a defense mechanism the mind uses to create strength when you feel weak, to create control when you feel vulnerable, and to project power when something makes you feel hurt.
Most anger is unprocessed pain wearing armor. You are not always mad at the person in front of you. You are reacting to something deeper. A memory. A wound. A belief. Anger protects the pain, but it also blocks the healing.
When you understand your pain, you begin to understand your anger.
