Oil on linen. 50x61 cm. 2025 Hallucinations in AI are results generated by an artificial intelligence model that are false, incorrect, or lack any basis in reality, often presented as plausible and convincing information. They occur when AI, especially generative models, invents data, creates unfounded facts, or distorts information due to erroneous patterns learned from its training data or a misinterpretation of that data. The paintings in the Hallucinations series use AI-generated images as a starting point, in which I have used specific prompts to produce hallucinations. These images are then painted in oils with the precision of the old masters. I am interested in AI’s ability to produce images that lie somewhere between a new kind of surrealism and truthful realism, and its relationship to the false images presented as true in the media and on social media platforms. #manuelfernandez #hallucinations #contemporaryart
