MIXLAND. This newly-completed studio build marks the explorative continuation of my conventionally-unorthodox no-desk approach to mixing records. This room features the BRILLIANT strauss_elektroakustik SE-MF-4 monitors, a remarkably fast 2-way passive midfield, designed by Juergen Strauss in Switzerland, who played a significant role in helping with the design of the room’s dimensions for optimal (and absurdly accurate) decay and response across the spectrum (especially down into the low end). In addition to his help, I have ppealbanana to thank for the inspiration behind these tube traps! He reverse-engineered the ASC isothermal tube traps and then handed me the keys to a DIY guide for building exact clones.. only bigger! These are 27” isothermal tube traps that surround the listening position in an attack wall configuration, and there are five more against the rear wall as well (these make the space sound unbelievably tight!)!
