This is my face covered in dust after hours of being under heavy winds inside a camping tent (which didn’t help much stopping the dust). This is our first attempt to climb Iztaccihuatl the third tallest mountain in Mexico . After weeks of heavy training and preparation finally the day came to attempt the objective. We arrived to the mountain at around midday , following an equipment training and acclimatization hike. Weather was great and we could even see the neighbor Popocateptl sending fumes into the sky and roaring. We had our lunch and then try to go sleep at 6 pm, everything was going as planned .
At 9 pm is when the wind started and never stopped . It just kept getting stronger and stronger and we were not able to even leave our camp . Mission was aborted and we couldn’t even start the climb . We spent a very extreme night , with no sleep covered in sand and dust .
As frustrating as it was it was totally out of our control. And we had to focus on what we could control. I did...
