👋 “Northern Lights - Lake Sundance” The northern lights, or aurora borealis to give it the proper name, are created by events on the sun giving rise to “space weather”. Like all weather, it’s less than predictable. Every night I check the data from spacecraft an hour sunward of Earth to see what might be on its way. A forecast of strong northern lights sees me getting cameras ready and sometimes driving out to a dark spot in the mountains or, if its strong enough, setting up right outside my home on the lake. I love the way the lights reflect in the water before the lake freezes over for the winter.
