First Reactor or First Responder?
Bad things happen in life, even to good people or kids, and we can't control those occurrences. However, what we can control is how we decide to now respond.
Many people are "great reactors"—they react to life without taking a moment to think it through and respond thoughtfully. Instead of dwelling in misery, living in the past, and thinking about what they could have done better, we need to shift our focus.
If you've made a mistake, even acted like an idiot, such as hurting somebody, it's imperative to go back, ask yourself why you did it, and use that reflection to learn from it and change the behavior. But it's detrimental to simply go back and dwell in it. Stop sitting in the misery and choose to think things through.
