The Battle of Maiwand, 1880 During the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878-1880), the British launched an attack on Afghan warriors in Maiwand District, Kandahar. As Afghan commanders fell and retreat seemed inevitable, Malalai, a 17-year-old village girl, rushed onto the battlefield. Holding the fallen flag high, she cried: 🔥 “If you die here, you become immortal! If you flee, you drown in shame!” Her words revived Afghan spirits, turning the tide of battle.
