Emran a 5 year old kid with a unique set of eyes from Sorkhrod district #JalalAbad was spotted in a 3hr+ traffic jam on our way back to #Kabul from Jalal Abad. I was mesmerised when I saw him at the back of the truck and got really excited to capture his portrait. I got him off the truck to take some photos but got really sad hearing from his brother that Emran is deaf and unable to speak 😕 Since the first upload on my IG stories I have learned more about his condition that he may likely be suffering from Waardenburg syndrome - a group of genetic conditions that can cause hearing loss and changes in coloring (pigmentation) of the hair, skin, and eyes. Although most people with Waardenburg syndrome have normal hearing, moderate to profound hearing loss can occur in one or both ears.
