“We are fed by a food industry that pays no attention to health, and we are treated by a health industry that pays no attention to food.” This glaring disconnect is at the very heart of today’s chronic disease epidemic. In my years across hospitals and clinics, I’ve witnessed patients being served food that goes directly against their path to recovery—meals high in sugar, low in nutrients, and completely detached from the concept of healing. As a Functional Medicine doctor, I know that food is far more than calories or fuel. Food is information for our bodies; it is our most direct line of communication with our biology. It’s a source of nourishment, connection, and, most crucially, it is medicine.
