Walking the narrow alleys of Hong Kong with local friends, we stumbled upon a traditional Chinese sweets stall, and I was instantly transported into someone else’s childhood.
I tried two authentic treats:
🍬 Chang Poh Piah: a crisp rice pancake filled with caramelised coconut and ground peanut
🍬 Lóng xū táng (aka Dragon’s Beard): a delicate Chinese “cotton candy” wrapped around a chewy peanut nougat
My favourite? Chang Poh Piah.
It reminded me so much of the Bengali
#patisapta a softer rice pancake filled with coconut and sweetened milk solids that my Assamese family love and make as well as special treats. Different cultures, different streets… yet the same comforting flavours. Food really does travel stories across borders 🤍
A special 'thank you' to my local
#HongKong friends for their warmth, hospitality and giving me a glimpse of their childhood favourites.
